This Offering from Dell doesn’t have the spec you can get from your desktop but with a base price of £1899 with this spec, lag should be kept to a minimum and what could be better than sitting in your local pub(wi-fi hotspot permitting) drinking ice cold draft beer whilst fragging your mated from around the world. This system boasts 2 8800gtx running in SLI and a Physx card giving you crisp, clean, fast and realistic graphics from your games.

What can it Play?

If we take UT3 as a sample the manufacturers reccomend:

Windows XP (with SP2) / Vista

2.4GHz Dual Core Processor

1GB RAM

nVidia 7800GTX, ATI x1300 or equivalent graphics card

The processor more than meets the requirements, 1 graphic card on its own would be enough but you have 2 running in SLI and with double the memory and a physx card turning the visuals right up shouldn’y impact performance. a must have pro gaming laptop for the pro gamer on the move

The sound card can be the most overlooked component in your pro gaming computer. With so many motherboard manufacturers providing onboard sound what’s the point in buying something else.

Whilst these onboard cards do an adequate job of transferring the sound of your M1 GARAND from your game to your eardrums, and to be honest it probably sounds ok.

Your processor will be doing quite a bit of the work involved in this process not to mention the memory that converting bits to audio takes.

This is where a dedicated Sound card comes into it’s, they’re on a seperate card so not crammed onto the motherboard allowing for better heat dissipation and they have ther own resouces to free up vital system power to deal with the rest of your gaming.

Enter Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Series.

This offering from Creative Labs boasts some of the best Specs available***. With 64MB of memory onboard and Hardware-accelerated EAX 5.0 and OpenAL gaming, you get Ultra Realistic in-game audio as well as accurate 3D positioning using headphones.

It’s not very often that we get something for nothing, but (as soon as it’s finished and released) the guys over at DICE are doing just that with Battlefield Heroes.

Battlefield Heroes

A new addition to the Battlefield franchise, this new offering differs from previous offering firstly because it is free, and secondly because it doesn’t in anyway focus on producing true to life graphics, instead it focuses on gameplay and the funfactor.

Because of this the proposed machine spec needed to run the game should be quite low* it means that you dont have to upgrade you computer spending hundreds of pounds just to get in on the action.

The game also features a nifty character customiser, allwoing to alter not just the class of your character but the look and accessories of your character.

Why is it free, the same way we offer access to our websites for free, advertising, on the main screen there will be a clickable advert which I am guessing people will be able to buy into and also as the game is distributed only via the internet I am guessing they’ll be having adverts within the download pages.

However they do it the game itself looks like a giggle and I for one cant wait to give it a go.

*propses minimum specs.

Operating System: Windows XP or Windows Vista

CPU: 1.0 GHz

RAM: 512 Mb (1Gb on Windows Vista)

Video Card: 64Mb DirectX compliant video card with at least pixel shader 2.0 support

Hard Drive space: 1Gb of space is required to install the game

Internet connection: 256kbit Cable/DSL connection
